Description

Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a shrubby perennial herb in the mint family, native to Southeastern Europe and Northwestern Africa, but now widely cultivated in temperate climates around the world. Its grayish-green, or purplish leaves are between 1.5-2 inches long and deeply veined, slightly hairy, wrinkled, and growing in pairs on the characteristic square stem of the mint family plants.

With a name derived from the Latin word salvus, meaning healthy – its not surprising that Sage has been known and used for its health supporting qualities since ancient times. In ancient folk traditions, Sage was believed to support long life and vitality, with a broad range of uses from respiratory and digestive support to oral health and positive mood. The modern reputation of Sage revolves around its uses supporting healthy mood, memory and cognition, hormonal balance and overall healthy aging.
